The formulas

Personal goods and services fee = payment × 2.99%
Business profile fee = payment × 1.9% + $0.10
Instant transfer = amount × 1.75% (min $0.25, max $25)

Worked example

A buyer pays $80 for a pair of shoes.

Personal account80 × 0.0299 = $2.39, you get $77.61
Business profile80 × 0.019 + 0.10 = $1.62, you get $78.38
Instant transfer (personal)77.61 × 0.0175 = $1.36, $76.25 reaches the bank

A business profile saves 77 cents on this sale. If you sell through Venmo every week, that adds up, and business profiles are what Venmo expects sellers to use.

Selling safely on Venmo

Ask buyers to pay as goods and services, not friends and family. It costs you the fee, but the payment then comes with Venmo's purchase protection for the buyer and seller protection rules for you, and it keeps your account within Venmo's terms. To compare costs with other ways of getting paid, try the PayPal, Cash App and Square calculators.

Questions people ask

How much does Venmo charge sellers?

On a personal account, goods and services payments cost 2.99% of the payment with no fixed fee. A Venmo business profile pays 1.9% + $0.10 per payment. Paying friends and family from a balance or bank account is free, but it is not meant for sales.

Who pays the goods and services fee?

The seller. The buyer pays the price, and Venmo takes its fee out of what the seller receives.

How much is a Venmo instant transfer?

1.75% of the amount, at least $0.25 and at most $25.00. A standard transfer to your bank is free and usually takes one to three business days.

Should I use a personal account or a business profile to sell?

If you sell regularly, a business profile is usually cheaper: on a $100 payment it costs $2.00 against $2.99 for a personal goods and services payment. Very small payments are the exception, because of the business profile's fixed 10 cents.
